Robert To the photographs

On September 5 of 2007 I met Robert. He is 12 years old and had just returned home from hospital in Helsinki where he had spent the previous four months in the isolation ward. In April he had passed out in school and after extensive testing he was diagnosed with aplastic anemia, a very rare blood disorder. The doctors have explained afterwards that had the disease been discovered a couple of months later, Robert might not be with us right now.

After very aggressive chemotherapy, radiation, and a bone marrow transplant Robert is finally starting to get back to somewhat of a normal life. Although the upcoming year will consist of homeschooling and frequent check-ups in hospital, Robert's life is finally looking up. I followed Robert around for a day. Here is his story.
